With nearly 25 years of experience and success in organizational leadership, economic development, and legislative advocacy, Doug Luciani has championed the causes of businesses and commerce on nearl every level. While he spearheads the growth and maturity of the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce and strengthens its standing in the region, state, and country, he is also the passonate and qualified bridge-builder who fosters consensus and mutual accomplishments for entities involved at every level of government and industry.
As the primary voice for business within the Chamber's five-county region of service, Doug has advanced the role the Chamber plays in securing substantial economic development, developing public policy, and advocatiing for business and community interests. While he is responsible for the Chamber's ongoing profitability and fulfillment of its mission to grow business and build community, Doug also actively leads and ensures accountability for the Chamber's three subsidary entities: Traverse Bay Economic Development Corporation, Traverse City Area Chamber Foundation, and Greater Kalkaska Area Chamber of Commerce.
Much of Dougs leadership expertise was developed in Kansas City. Early in his career, Doug's trade association work honed his skills in labor relations, public relations and government affairs. From there he advanced to roles with the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, first as the leader of transportaion and environment programs for the region, and later as Vice President of Economic Growth and Development. His successes in these two roles cemented his negotiation and coalition-building skills, and the Kansas City area prospered under Doug's management, gaining prestige as an international trade processing center and high-tech incubator for entrepreneurs. Prior to his move to Traverse City, Doug was named Senior Vice President of Business Growth and Member Connections and focused on international business, diversity, transportation, the environment, and economic research and analysis. He studied Political Science and English at Central Michigan University and holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Massachusetts.
Doug is respected communicator and strategic planner who believes in the power of regional collaboration with local governments, other chambers, and non-profit organizations, to bring focus to transportaion, diveristy, education, environmental, and job creation/sustaining issues. He is a lifelong learner and is constantly seeking to further his knowledge in economic development. He shares his leadership skills and is an active volunteer on many community boards and organizations. Doug and his wife, Lynne, have two daugthers, Olivia and Maria.
