Doug DeYoung wears two hats; he serves as Vice President of Government Relations and Business Advocacy for the Chamber, as well as for the Northern Michigan Regional Chamber Alliance which includes the following chambers; Benzie County, Cadillac, Charlevoix, Gaylord, Lake Superior Community Partnership, Petoskey, and Traverse City Area. He is responsible for all aspects of the Chamber's local, regional, and statewide advocacy for business growth and community development, including maintaining contact with local officials and state legislators. He serves as the point person for political news and information for the Traverse City Area Chamber and Regional Chamber Alliance members. He is also the staff person for the Traverse City Chamber's Transportation and Government Relations Committees as well as the Business Leadership Council and works with members to provide information for the creation of project advocacy action plans.
Prior to joining the Chamber staff, Doug was a key player in Northern MIchigan broadcast television news. He was the news director for WPBN-WTOM TV 7&4 News, overseeing all aspects of the daily news and editorial coverage for 25 Northern Michigan counties, and was responsible for the newsroom budget and management of a team of 30 employees. Doug led the development of editorial content that received awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and the Associated Press; under his leadership, the news team also earned the prestigous Edward R. Murrow Award.
Doug is a graduate of Michigan State University and his family has been a part of the Traverse City area since 1938 and operated and owned a retail store in Traverse City for more than 60 years. Doug and his wife, Maureen, have two daugthers; they are active as volunteers for many community organizations.
