Draft Economic Development Strategic Plan Introduced to City Commission

The Traverse Bay EDC presented a draft strategic plan to the Traverse City City Commission Monday night.  The Traverse Bay EDC anticipates a collaborative, iterative process that further refines the draft strategy based upon City feedback, public participation, and its continued partnership with business and industry.  Together, a final plan will be refined and formally presented to the City after sufficient updates and contributions are made by all interested stakeholders.

Two Area Companies Approved for Financing

The Grand Traverse County Board of Commissioners approved Electro-Optics Technology and Stexley-Brake for financing through Grand Traverse County's Revolving Loan Fund program Wednesday evening.

Benzie County Highlights

BioTech Agronomics, a firm that land applies wastewater treatment plant solids, is experiencing significant growth, and has built a maintenance facility near the Village of Beulah. In short order, BioTech Agronomics has become one of the largest of such firms in Western Michigan.

Grand Traverse County continues to be a very interesting venue for economic development activities. Recently, Federated Properties allowed their permits for downtown development to lapse, effectively ending a contentious chapter in our history. The future of the parcels is, at this time, cloudy.

Leelanau County Highlights

Varley-Kelly Properties, L.L.C. continues to work with the Leelanau Brownfield Redevelopment Authority to redevelop the property of the County Courthouse/Jail complex. The county approved modifications to the project to include lead and asbestos abatement.

Employer Training Council to Host the Paper Chase Workshop

The Employer Training Council of Northwest Michigan will host the Paper Chase Workshop on Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Waterfront Conference Center in Traverse City. The event will help employers learn about the new Form I-9 and the steps to maintain compliance.
