What is the DevelopMentor ProgramTM?
It is a turn-key package of three resource tools that can be used by communities who want to proactively address land use, growth and development issues.
Who will benefit from the DevelopMentor ProgramTM?
Chambers of Commerce, Economic Development Corporations, community growth advocacy groups, County Planning Departments, Planning Commissions, regional planning entities, any organization that would like to be a proactive advocate for guided growth.
What does the package include?
-
A Development Guidebook that can help shape a brighter future for your region
- A training module that will help planning commissioners and boards understand the importance of carefully guided growth
- A “how to” manual for setting up a DevelopMentor Panel in your community
What is the Guidebook?
An educational resource produced by New Designs for Growth (an initiative of the Traverse Area Chamber of Commerce) dedicated to the preservation of land resources, the promotion of sustainable development practices and advancement of progressive site design. It is a 100-page book with drawings and examples of ways in which development can occur using the latest in best management practices and site design principles.
Who will read it?
Planning commissioners, city/township boards, government sector planners, private developers, real estate professionals, engineering and architectural firms, building trade professionals, concerned citizens, Chambers of Commerce, etc.
What is the training module all about?
This educational resource is targeted at planning commissioners, trustees, and elected boards who serve as the key decision makers on land use policy issues. The curriculum will cover the content of the Guidebook and how it can be used to influence the master planning and zoning ordinance revision process. Training materials will include PowerPoint presentations (CD-ROMs), curriculum outline, and study hand-outs (electronic files). The module will be designed to ensure that presenters can easily deliver consistent, comprehensive orientation to the Guidebook and its application in local land-use decision making.
What is a DevelopMentor Panel?
This is a panel of seasoned professionals who have extensive knowledge and who subscribe to the principles found in the Development Guidebook. They meet with development teams early in the process in a round-table forum. As a community service, they offer suggestions and examples of how Guidebook principles can be incorporated into a project.
