Of course we realize that Northern Michigan is known as a Mecca for many things - outdoor recreation, shopping, entertainment, landscape beauty, and much more. Yet, our region is also driven by the diverse small businesses that choose to do business here.
Our region's small businesses are racing to the finish line creating new ideas, technological advances, cultural awareness, and ultimately new jobs! It is the combination of quality of life and innovation that makes this region the perfect foundation to build a business community that keeps our economy racing.
The Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce recognizes the importance of small business to northern Michigan. It's more than the economic backbone of the community - it's the spirit and passion that fuels our culture.
The 2008 Small Business Celebration and the 2008 Hagerty Small Business of the Year Award will celebrate this exciting spirit and entrepreneurial fire. Participants will benefit from the free publicity, events that showcase their products and services, a chance to boost employee energy and company pride and great new business connections through several networking opportunities

Program Timeline
- December 21, 2007 - Nomination Deadline. You can nominate as many companies as you like for the Hagerty Small Business of the Year Award. Note: The nomination deadline was December 21, 2007, therefore nominations are no longer being accepted.
- January 4, 2008 - Applications Mailed to Nominees. Once all nominees are in, applications will be mailed to the nominees outlining the Celebration and the necessary steps for further participation.
- February 29, 2008 - Applications are due to the Chamber by 5:00 p.m.
- March 26, 2008 - Candidates Showcase. Time: 5:30 - 7:30 PM. Location: Great Wolf Lodge's new conference center. All applicants are honored at this event. Small businesses can present their products and services and network with attendees and other candidates.
- April 9, 2008 - Announcement of the Top 10 Small Businesses. Time: 11:00 AM. Location: Hagerty Insurance
- May 7, 2008 - Meet the Top 10 Breakfast. Time: 7:30 - 9:00 AM. Location: Traverse City Golf & Country Club. Gain an insider's view of the Top 10 CEOs as they reveal their challenges, risks and tips for continued success. This event promises to be fun, fast-paced and insightful. You must pre-register to attend.
- May 21, 2008 - Small Business Celebration Awards Luncheon.
Time: 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM. Location: Hagerty Center on NMC's Great Lakes Campus. This will be the most eagerly anticipated event of the celebration. With another look at the Top 10 candidates, the recipient of the Hagerty Small Business of the Year Award will be announced! You must pre-register to attend this event.
