Silent Observer of Grand Traverse

A Service Provided By:
The Mission of the Silent Observer Program is to provide a channel of communication and rewards for anonymous information; to assist law enforcement through encouraging citizen and business participation and support; and to help insure a safer community.
No Matter how well equipped or effective a local law enforcement agency may be, it cannot function successfully without the cooperation and involvement of its local community members. Silent Observer is a vital component in our community's fight against crime.
You Can Help!
Should you witness a crime or have information that may be helpful to law enforcement officials in solving a crime, follow these easy steps:
- Call 231-947-TIPS (8477), your local police department
- Tell the operator you want to be a Silent Observer
- The operator will assign you a code number that is only given to you
- Give the operator the information you have regarding the crime
- OR - Report a crime via e-mail to jmccarthytcpd@gmail.com (when e-mailing crime information, anonymity is not an option)
Tips for Reporting Information
Provide as much detail as possible, such as:
- Date crime occurred
- Crime location
- Address
- City/County
- Suspect's full name
- Describe the physical characteristics of the suspect(s) - including name(s) and alias, age, height, weight, hair color and any scars or markings. Also include information about vehicle make, model, color and plate number.
Anonymity is Guaranteed!
- Silent Observer will not attempt to determine your identity (unless you provide your tip via e-mail - then anonymity is not an option). However, the reward will be paid to you in a manner which protects your identity.
- However, if you are comfortable with providing your name and contact information you may do so.
More About the Program
Silent Observer is a highly successful grassroots program organized by the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce in 1998. Since it's inception, Silent Observer has been a vehicle where anyone with information about crime may call in information anonymously. If police make an arrest because of the information provided, a reward of up to $2,500 can be earned.
