21st Century Jobs Fund
What is it? Administered by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the 21st Century Jobs Fund offers grants to projects that promote job growth and help to diversify Michigan’s economy, especially in high technology.
Who's eligible? Companies, non-profits, educational institutions, and other agencies can apply for a grant from the fund. The fund seeks to “Encourage the Development and Commercialization of Competitive-Edge Technologies.” These include life sciences, alternative energy, advanced automotive, and homeland security and defense. Projects in support of these technologies can also be eligible.
How much is available? No exact amount is specified for 21st Century Jobs Fund Award recipients. More than $100 million dollars was awarded in 2006.
What are the terms for approval? The review board gives preference to proposals that assist in the diversification of Michigan’s economy, and/or the creation of employment opportunities. Also preferred are collaborative efforts among corporations, educational institutions, and nonprofit research institutions.
