US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Grants

What is it? Grants provided by the USDA Rural Development offices help to fund projects in support of sustainable economic development in rural communities. Projects can include economic planning, technical assistance, training for entrepreneurs, and cooperatives. Two grant sources exist: the Rural Business Opportunity Grant and the Rural Cooperative Development Grants.

Who's eligible? Public bodies, nonprofit corporations, Indian tribes, or rural cooperatives. Qualified applicants must demonstrate expertise in the proposed project, as well as financial management sufficient to carry out the project successfully. The project must accomplish economic development objectives in a rural community.

How much is available? Grant amounts vary. Most grants are less than $50,000.

What are the terms for agreement? Grants are awarded based on selection criteria. Application forms can be found on the USDA web site.
