Northwestern Michigan College (NMC)

The Mission of NMC is to provide lifelong learning opportunities to our communities. They serve more than 50,000 students annually in the five-county region of Northwest Michigan. Their many and varied programs support vocational and technical education needs, as well as credit transfer to universities. NMC is a strong and steadfast component of the communities in this region, offering not only traditional education, but also non-credit and recreational learning through NMC’s Extended Education Services. NMC also houses the Dennos Museum Center, WNMC public radio, the Great Lakes Water Studies Institute, Hagerty Conference Center, Michigan Energy Demonstration Center, and Rogers Observatory.


Michigan Educational Technical Center (MTEC)

M-TEC centers were created to make the State of Michigan a leader in workforce development and are located throughout the state. Parsons-Stulen M-TEC opened its doors in January 2001 in Traverse City. Its goal is to provide flexible learning in technical education and training, in partnership with Northwestern Michigan College. Programs include Automotive, CAD Drafting, Computer Studies, Construction Technology, Electronics Technology, and more.

 

Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center (MMTC)

Michigan Manufacturing Technology Centers provide innovative training and consulting for small and medium manufacturers. Their areas of expertise include Value Stream Costing, Environmental Management Systems, LEAN Business Solutions, Quality Management Systems, and Six Sigma. Northwestern Michigan College Training and Research Center (TRAC) is home to MMTC in the Northwest Michigan region. They provide seminars and workshops, on-site training, mentoring, transformation planning, and benchmarking services, among many others.

Northwest Michigan WORKS! provides services to job seekers and businesses alike. Job seekers receive help with writing resumes, career information and job search, interest assessments, and more. Career Advisors counsel job seekers on job search methods, appropriate work behaviors, and other employability skills.

Job training and classroom training are available to job seekers and businesses who qualify for Workforce Investment Act and Trade Assistance funding.

Northwest Michigan WORKS! is one of few Michigan WORKS! agencies to employ Business Liaisons. The Business Liaison is an employer’s first point of contact with the Michigan WORKS! system and an indispensable connection to resources. Services are free of charge and include employee recruitment and training, basic workplace skills, outplacement services, on-the-job training reimbursement through the federal Workforce Investment Act, and more.

 

KAL-TEC

KAL-TEC is a workforce development initiative from the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments, in partnership with many local organizations and educational institutions. Funded by Michigan Regional Skills Alliance and Rotary Charities of Traverse City, KAL-TEC offers educational opportunities to residents of Kalkaska County. The purpose of KAL-TEC is to increase the employability skills of the workforce, positioning Kalkaska County for explosive economic growth.
