Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City provides passenger, freight forwarding, air cargo, and air courier services. FedEx, UPS, Airborne Express and DHL handle cargo services. Delta Airlines, American Eagle, Northwest Airlines, Northwest Airlink and United Express provide passenger service to more than 300 domestic and international destinations, including direct flights to Detroit, Cincinnati, New York, Minneapolis, Chicago, and Dallas. Several general aviation airports also service the area.
The ports of Traverse City and Frankfort offer deep water access to the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway and beyond. Recreational ports and marinas dot the entire five-county region.
Area Industries' and businesses' rail freight needs are met by the Tuscola & Saginaw Bay Railway, which connects with destinations throughout the Midwest, East Coast, and Canada.
The area's network of highways includes U.S. 31, U.S. 131, M-113, M-72, M-37, M-137, M-22, M-88, M-66, and M-168. Nearby I-75 is the area's link with the national interstate system.
The Bay Area Transportation Authority (BATA) operates a local bus service in Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties.
